Human rights activist to receive ‘Bor Asom Samanway Bota’

The Lakhimpur district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad (AJYP), in association with Lakhimpur Jila Xahitya Xabha (LJXX), will confer the prestigious “Bor Asom Samanway Bota” this year on Dr. Anjali Prabha Daimary (widely known as Anjali Daimary), a prominent human rights activist of the State.

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad (AJYP), in association with Lakhimpur Jila Xahitya Xabha (LJXX), will confer the prestigious “Bor Asom Samanway Bota” this year on Dr. Anjali Prabha Daimary (widely known as Anjali Daimary), a prominent human rights activist of the State.

It was declared by Lakhimpur district unit AJYP president Haren Baruah, general secretary Mobin Ahmed, Axam Xahitya Xabha secretary Bipul Sarmah Baruah, LJXX president Umananda Baruah in a press conference organized at North Lakhimpur Press Club in the presence of North Lakhimpur regional unit AJYP president Manoj Kalita and other office bearers of the organization and the literary body. The award carries a cash amount of Rs. 25,000, a memento, a heng-dang, traditional attires of the Ahom community with a turban. The award is instituted by the organization in connection with Asom Divas and is presented every year to a noted figure of the State who has already contributed a lot for the unity and integration in the greater Assamese society.

Dr. Anjali Prabha Daimary has already established herself to be a noted human rights activist who has participated in a number of national level as well as international level conferences organized by the UNO. She has been working for the all-round development of the Bodo community for long time by coordinating with the other communities of the State. She represented the Bodos for the first time in United Nations Working Group on Indigenous Population (UNWGIP) in Geneva, Switzerland in 1996. She already received a lot of awards for remarkable contribution to different fields of her works. She will receive the Bor Asom Samanway Bota on Saturday in North Lakhimpur at a event organized for the celebration of the Asom Divas.
