DIGBOI: The Aam Admi Party (AAP) has been reportedly gaining momentum in Digboi. In a severe jolt to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), hundreds of workers and supporters of the saffron brigade formally joined AAP under the leadership of Manoj Dhanowar here on Wednesday in Digboi.

Around 150 BJP workers and supporters led by Abidul Ahmed, the BJP Minority Morcha secretary of Digboi Mandal, joined the AAP. The induction ceremony presided over by AAP member Manoj Dhanowar, saw a large number of BJP functionaries from Bogapani and Panikhuwa GP under Digboi Assembly Constituency.

“The AAP has opened a new vista of people-oriented development and has proved its mettle in so many aspects ranging from zero tolerance to corruption to free schools, water, electricity and improved road connectivity, etc for the ease of the common people,” said a BJP supporter who joined AAP, while citing the reasons for quitting the saffron party.

Abidul Ahmed said, “The pro-people administration of Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi and similar efforts of Manoj Dhanowar in Assam have made me believe that people of Assam have better days under AAP.”

Meanwhile, AAP leader Manoj Dhanowar, the son of Congress high voltage leader and former minister of Assam, Rameswar Dhanowar, while welcoming the new joiners hoped that AAP would emerge victorious in Digboi in the next assembly election.
