GUWAHATI: AIUDF turncoat Phanidhar Talukdar, who joined the BJP on Wednesday, said that he could not visit temples since after electing as the MLA of the Bhabanipur Constituency.

The ex-MLA claimed before media that frustration grew in him slowly in the last four months.

"The AIUDF won the Bhabanipur constituency three times. All the former AIUDF MLAs of the constituency except me were from the minority community. They did not visit Hindu temples. But I had to visit mosques also. So, I could not visit temples during the last four months. It has created frustration in me. I tried to understand the feelings of the Hindu community people of my constituency as they earlier lacked proper representation," Talukdar added.

He also said that the Bhabanipur Constituency is a historic constituency as it was the birthplace of Khargeswar Talukdar, the first martyr of the 6-year long Assam Agitation.

Alleging that the development evaded the constituency due to the apathy of former representatives, Talukdar added, "Bhabanipur carries the memory of martyr Khargeswar Talukdar. I want to work for the development of it."

He also heaped praises on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and said that the people of Bhabanipur want development.

Phanidhar Talukdar an MLA from Bhabanipur constituency in Assam has tendered his resignation on Wednesday morning and joined BJP.

According to the report, on Wednesday morning Talukdar has submitted his resignation as MLA to Assam Assembly speaker Biswajit Daimary. The former MLA on Wednesday morning also meet state's BJP leaders including the chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

After Rupjyoti Kurmi and Sushanta Borgohain, Talukdar is the third one who resigned from their respective parties to join BJP.

Phanidhar Talukdar is a first-time MLA from the AIUDF, who won the recently held Assembly elections in Assam from Bhabanipur constituency with 55, 975 votes against Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate Ranjit Deka who received 52,748 votes.
