LAKHIMPUR: An Indian Council for Social Sciences and Research (ICSSR) sponsored national seminar on green practices towards Sustainable Development: Its Need and Challenges in the 21st Century was held at Lakhimpur Commerce College recently. The two day-long seminar was organized by the departments of Economics, Banking and Commerce. It was inaugurated by Dr. Lohit Hazarika, principal of the college. The traditional lamp was lighted by Rajendra Prasad Borah, senior teacher of the college. In his inaugural-cum-welcome address Principal Dr. Lohit Hazarika said that adoption of green practices is a change process from a conventional system of attaining social-economic development by not affecting the environment. He further said that the green economy, essential for the sustainability of the environment is at its nascent stage in India where its implementation at the local level is the key factor.
The key-note address of the inaugural session of the seminar was delivered by Dr. Tridiv Ranjan Sarma, Associate Professor of Business Administration of Tezpur University. In his key-note address Dr Sarma spoke about the five stages of the evolution of green practices in the organizational level worldwide and the course of events in which the environmental practices in the developing and underdeveloped world are being implemented by the rich, industrial world of the developed North.
The inaugural session was also attended by Dr. Pranjal Bezborah, retired professor of Business Management, Dibrugarh University, Vice Principal of the college G.K. Chetry, founder Principal Dr H.K. Baruah paper presenters, faculty members of the college and students. The session was anchored by Anirban Patgiri, assistant professor of Banking and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Sangeeta Tamuli Borthakur, HoD-Economics of the college.
The inaugural session of the seminar was followed by the first technical session which was chaired by Dr. Pranjal Bezborah, retired professor of Business Management, Dibrugarh University. Dr. Tridiv Ranjan Sarma, Associate Professor of Business Administration of Tezpur University attended the session as the resource person.
