MANGALDAI: One more feather in the form of the 'National Award of Excellence in Fisheries sector for Best Hilly and North Eastern region Fish Farmers' has been added to the cap of ideal and progressive fishery entrepreneur of Assam, Amal Medhi by the Government of India on World Fisheries Day in New Delhi on Saturday.
Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Pratap Chandra Sarangi on Saturday ceremonially conferred the award to Amal Medhi in an august function organized at National Agricultural Science Complex, New Delhi to mark the world Fisheries Day. Besides a letter of citation, this award carries a trophy and a cheque amounting to Rs 1 lakh. The function was organized by the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India. He is the only fishery entrepreneur from Assam to be conferred this award.
On the other hand, Assam was awarded with the Best State award while Nagaon district received the Best District award.
Talking to The Sentinel immediately after receiving the award in New Delhi, progressive and ideal fishery Entrepreneur Amal Medhi of village Sondha in Nalbari district expressed his gratitude to the Fishery Department of the Government of India, Assam Government and Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Nalbari. He also described this award as a recognition for the fish farmers of the State.
