LAKHIMPUR: The erosion-affected idol of Goddess Durga who has been worshipped as Shri Shri Burhi Aai, was re-established at a new place under Khaga of Lakhimpur district in a programme organized in a sacred environment on the occasion of Maha Navami.

Notably, this shrine of the goddess, titled as Shri Shri Burhi Aai Than, was established at Goriyaghuli near Khaga by the side of the River Subansiri in 1928. But the massive erosion of the river affected the site and swept away the idol several times. Then the devotees worshipped the goddess by establishing the idols at two places - at Adisuti Parghat and at Aserakota Parghat of the river. Of late, the idols were re-established in one place.

On this occasion, a programme was organized with religious fervour. It began with a massive plantation drive led by 16 prominent persons of the larger Khaga area. Then the Bigrah- the idols- were brought to the newly-selected site from Adisuti Parghat and Aserakota Parghat.

Priest Charu Bhagawati administered the religious event of establishing the idols. Then the devotees presented Aai Naam offering prashada. Member of Somdiri Zila Parishad constituency under Lakhimpur Zila Parishad, Surya Prashad Baruah and Madhya Telahi Gaon Panchayat president Mahendra Bhuyan took part in the programme as guests of honour.
