A CORRESPONDENT
LAKHIMPUR: Indo -Global Social Service Society (IGSSS), a national social development organization, distributed dry ration and sanitation kits to around 477 families living in 25 villages in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts, who are severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic situation, partial lockdown and inter-district movement restrictions imposed by the government to control the mass infection. The organization initiated the drive as part of the COVID-19 National Response Plan, with support from Secours Catholique, a charitable NGO that is a member of Caritas Internationalist Network.
The distribution commenced from June 17 to June 19. During the drive, a packet containing 1 kg salt, 100 gram turmeric powder, 2kg masoor dal, 1kg chickpea, 1kg onion, 1 litre mustard oil, 2 packets soyabean (each 200 gram), 1kg chana dal, 5 kg potato, 6 bars of bathing soaps, one hand sanitizer and 1kg detergent powder was distributed among the families.
Moreover, IGSSS, with assistance from HDFC Bank under its CSR flagship programme titled as Holistic Rural Development Programme, supported 350 families under 15 villages of Lakhimpur and Boginadi Development Blocks with dry ration from June 6 to June 8 after obtaining permission from the district administration. The organization also extended conditional cash grants of Rs 8,000 each through direct bank transfer to 40 families to restart their livelihood activities as part of the COVID-19 response plan.
