BISWANATH CHARIALI: The Guardian Minister of Biswanath district, Pijush Hazarika has issued strict instruction to the district and police administration to destroy all illegal liquor hubs in Biswanath within three days.

The minister said that based on his own research. He has figured out that areas, where illegal liquor hubs exist, have been transformed into COVID hotspots. He cited examples from other districts to corroborate his finding. The minister was here on Friday to review the COVID situation of the district. "If we are to control the COVID situation in Biswanath district, all liquor hubs will have to be destroyed within three days and there will be no compromise on this ground. I want everyone to take this order with utmost seriousness," said Hazarika. He further added that the Circle Officers would be answerable in the event of non-compliance of his order in their respective revenue circles.

The minister also asked the administration and the health department to ramp up vaccination in and around areas which have been identified as COVID hotspots. Further, he said that to minimize the risk of a positive patient transmitting the virus to others, home isolation should not be encouraged at all and only those patients who strictly meet all the criteria of home isolation, as laid down by National Health Mission (NHM), should be allowed to stay at home. Biswanath district is under round-the-clock curfew since June 28. Figures show that since curfew has been imposed, the positivity rate too has come down. As a comparative study, the positivity rate, which was 3.35 per cent in pre-curfew days, has now dropped down to 2.77 per cent.

The minister also briefly reviewed the ongoing projects under the Public Health and Engineering (PHE) department. He has issued instructions to the officials concerned to expedite the projects under Jal Jeevan Mission and to ensure that works get completed within the stipulated deadlines.
