Illegal sand extraction at Tipam-Ushapur under Digboi forest division

Naharkatia: The alleged unrestrained illegal extraction of sand at the Tipam-Ushapur area near the Joypur Rain Forest under Digboi forest division has threatened the environment. According to reports, some illegal sand runners are regularly involved in the extraction and stocking of sand illegally by using an excavator and heavy machinery over the Burhi Dihing river at Tipam-Ushapur and Sasoni area although no permit has been issued by the Forest Department. The 2017 budget declared the e-tendering process on sand and stone extraction but it has not been introduced as yet. These illegal sand runners run the illegal extraction of sand by managing some dishonest forest officials.
