JAMUGURIHAT: An illegal sawmill, along with 8 logs of valuable wood, was seized from Bamunipam village near Jamugurihat by a team of forest officials headed by range officer Dhaneswar Doley of Diplonga forest range office on September 2.
According to information, a team of forest officials from Diplonga range office had carried out a search operation against illegal wood smuggling in Bamunipam village under Jamuguri police station and seized an illegal sawmill and eight piled up logs.
Notably, the Bamunipam village shares its boundary with the Jiyabharali River and timber smugglers bring logs of wood from protected forests through Bordikorai and Jiyabharali River up to Bamunipam village. They pile up the logs, which are then segregated and sized in sawmills and send for sale. The move of Diplonga range office against timber smuggling has been widely appreciated by the conscious people of greater Jamugurihat.
