Illegal sawmill busted, two smugglers held in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: Forest staff of Ultapani, under the leadership of Range Officer Dhiren Basumatary and SSB personnel of Salapara, carried out a joint operation against timber smugglers of valuable Sal logs and non-Sal logs at Ultapani and Saralpara along the Indo-Bhutan border areas under Chirang-Riphu Reserve Forest in Haltugaon Forest Division of Kokrajhar district. Two timber smugglers with 117 pieces of illegal sawn Sal logs and non-Sal logs were arrested at Saralbhanga block near Swrmanga River in Ultapani forest range.

Talking to reporters, Dhiren Basumatary, Ranger of Ultapani forest range, said that they were carrying out joint operation against timber smugglers in Ultapani and Saralpara in the Chirang-Riphu Forest Reserve in Kokrajhar. Accordingly, they carried out operation on Friday evening and could bust an illegal sawmill and arrest two timber smugglers. He said that the arrested persons had been identified as Haria Hembrom (20) of village Jaypur Ultapani and Seman Bara (25) of village No-2 Birganj, Ultapani in Ultapani forest range under Haltugaon Fotest Division office in Kokrajhar .
