DIGBOI: A team of Assam Police led by OC Bordumsa, Nitu Changmai seized a Xenon pick-up vehicle (AS-23-BC-4273) loaded with illegal timber along the Assam-Arunachal border location of Dirok Hunjan village in Tinsukia district on Saturday night.

"We have arrested three persons identified as Debojit Moran (24), Antojit Moran (20) and Bhaikon Bora (19), all hailing from Borali village under Kakopother police station," confirmed OC Changmai, adding, "Besides, we have also seized the vehicle and handed it over to the forest department for further action."

The value of the seized consignment is estimated at around Rs 2 lakh. Sources informed that the illegally procured sawn timber was being transported from Arunachal's Namsai district for commercial purposes without any valid documents.

On June 16, in a separate operation, Bordumsa police recovered a deserted tractor without registration number loaded with illegal timber at Koriajan village. The sawn timber was reportedly fetched from Pengaree Reserve forest and its market value was estimated at more than Rs 2 lakh. No arrest could be made.

"I have lodged an FIR with the forest department concerned against Rontu Sonowal and Tikendra Sonowal of Koriajan village for their alleged involvement in the illegal timber trade," informed Nitu Changmai.
