GUWAHATI: Some people have been, allegedly, running an illegal sex racket in Banderdawa, Lakhimpur in Assam, disturbing social order in the area.

The illicit trade has come to light after local journalists carried out a string operation.

According to reports, a group consisting of some people including girls of different ages are involved with the racket.

Local journalists carried out a string operation in a hotel at Banderdawa. During the string operation, a man with two girls was caught in a hotel room. The journalists also recovered condoms and other items from the room.

However, the man who was caught with the girls, claimed that he entered their room for micturition. Sources said that some girls from Nagaon and Hojai frequent the hotel.

Meanwhile, the local police denied such illegal activities in the area and termed the journalists' reports as a drama. 

Earlier this month, personnel of EGPD (East Guwahati Police District) led by ADCP (Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police) carried out raids in two areas of the Guwahati city and arrested 12 females and six males.

Police sources informed that the raids were conducted at Bishnujyoti Path under Hatigaon Police Station and also at Surajmukhi Path under Bashistha Police Station.

The police seized Rs 65,000 in cash and 12 mobiles from the arrested persons. Both the sex rackets were being conducted from rented houses, added sources.
