TINSUKIA: After a brief lull, timber smugglers from Arunachal Pradesh, in active connivance with their Assam counterparts, resumed illegal transportation of forest products through the Assam-Arunachal border under Doomdooma revenue circle in Tinsukia district.

On Friday, local people of Dholla intercepted a 12-wheeler truck bearing registration number AS 01DC 4651 laden with timber at Maitong-Dhadum connecting road in Mege launder Doomdooma forest division. Later, Doomdooma forest officials, on being informed, arrived at the spot and seized the vehicle. Forest officials informed that the timber was illegal and being transported from Namsai through diversion roads to Assam. According to local people, trucks carrying illegal consignments regularly trespass in these routes after nightfall.
