BARPETA: The forest officials of Barpeta and Barpeta Road seized a large number of illegal logs and some illegal saw mills in Barpeta district.

Illegal timber business is going on in the district and some saw mills are operating without permission. Illegal timber business is rampant under Tarabari police station at Bahari, under Barpeta police station at Kayakuchi and under Barpeta Road police station at Kalahbhanga, Islampur. The forest officials led by Jayanta Nath, regional forest officer, Achinta Deuri, forest beat officer, forester Bipul Choudhury, Banjit Das and Dharmeswar Talukdar seized some iron tools and one generator from three saw mills at Bahari, Kayakuchi and Kalahbhanga, Islampur in Barpeta district during the operation. They also seized a large number of illegal logs. The market value of the timber is about Rs 50,000.
