LAKHIMPUR: The 5th annual conference of the Nagaon district unit of the United Bodo People's organization (UBPO) was held at Dhupguri Kachari Gaon LP School premises on Saturday.
A press release issued in this regard by the District Committee of the organization concerned stated that the open session of the event commenced with president Ghanakanta Mohela in the chair under the management of general secretary Tapan Khakhlari. It was inaugurated by Nagaon District Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Prasanta Basumatary. In his lecture, Prasanta Basumatary called upon the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) to work for the academic and economic development of the Bodo community people. He also called upon the UBPO to work for ushering in peace, progress, unity and integrity in the community along with other Bodo community frontal organizations. On the other hand, Executive Member of the BKWAC, Mathura Basumatary, addressing the public, assured that the BKWAC would be shaped as an example among the autonomous councils of the State and it would work for the greater interest of the community.
UBPO central committee president Manoranjan Basumatary graced the occasion as the chief guest. While delivering his lecture, Manoranjan Basumatary demanded the State government to implement the BTR Peace Accord at the earliest. He also called upon the government to release NDFB founder president Ranjan Daimari from imprisonment, to hold an election for the BKWAC by notifying and demarcating the constituencies of the council concerned and to allocate adequate fund to the BKWAC. UBPO assistant general secretaries Ratna Baglary, Abhiram Bodo, Ex-NDFB Welfare Society president Dharmeswar Basumatary, Ex-BLT dignitaries, ABWWF dignitaries were among those who were present at the event.
