Incessant Rain Throws Life out of Gear in Dima Hasao, Haflong

Haflong: Incessant rain has thrown normal life out of gear in Dima Hasao causing inconvenience to the people of places like Haflong, Maibang, Mahur, Langting, Hatikhali, Harangajao and Umrangsu.

At Langting, due to rain some places got waterlogged. People could not come out of their houses due to continuous downpour. The hanging bridge at Pampu Ghat and many parts of NH-54 have washed away in between Langting-Hatikhali.

River Jatinga swelled and crossed the danger level. The river washed away three boulder-carrying trucks at Harangajao. The road communication between Harangjao and Silchar was disrupted due to landslides at several locations.

Also Saturday there was the weekly market at Haflong, people preferred to remain confined to their homes as there was no sign of the rain stopping. Many places in Haflong were submerged by water and reports of landslides are also coming in.

Meanwhile, the District Disaster Management Authority has alerted the entire line department to remain ready round-the-clock. The restoration works near N Leikul were also carried out.

Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner Amitabh Rajkhowa informed that all possible measures were being taken to ensure safety of life and property.
