Dibrugarh: India's first commercial Indian-made aircraft for civil operations was launched by Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia on 12 April at Mohanbari Airport in Dibrugarh.

Made in India, the aircraft has been named Dornier 228 and it is operated by Alliance Air. It was launched for its first-ever commercial flight on the Dibrugarh-Pasighat route.

Regular flight operations with Dibrugarh- Pasighat- Lilabari- Dibrugarh route will be made operational with immediate effect.

Alliance Air has said that they will later expand their flight services to Tezu, Mechuka, Ziro and Tuting in Arunachal Pradesh and Dibrugarh Airport will act as the hub station.

Alliance Air also went on to say that the development of the North Eastern Region (NER) is a part of India's growth story, apart from the region being strategically important.

Jyotiraditya Scindia took to his official Twitter handle to express his satisfaction.

Connectivity in the Northeast is of utmost significance and the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), under UDAN, the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), has identified this region as an area that needs to be prioritized.

Alliance Air has remarked that inter and intra connectivity for the Northeast has been enhanced as a result of it.

Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of Law & Justice, Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman AAI, Rajiv Bansal, Secretary, MoCA, Usha Padhe, Joint Secretary, MoCA, were also present on the occasion.
