PATHSALA: The National Highway-127 Indo-Bhutan road connecting Pathsala to Bhutan Nganglam road has become a headache for commuters as several parts of the road are filled with potholes and the journey through the National Highway can be compared to a ride in the well of death.

The entire road has been damaged following rains and the plying of overloaded Bhutanese trucks, posing a threat to the lives of thousands of commuters here in Pathsala, Jalah-Simla road, locals alleged.

Mridul Talukdar, joint secretary of the central committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), said, "The condition of NH-127 Pathsala to Bhutan is very bad and pathetic and has become a death trap due to lack of regular maintenance. The NHAI has not filled gaping potholes on NH -127."

He also alleged, "In India, there is no restriction on Bhutanese trucks. Due to violation of traffic rules, road mishaps take place frequently on the NH-127 Pathsala to Nganglam road where many people have lost their lives due to speedy trucks and dampers. Authorities of both the countries should look into the matter."

Dimpu Barman, a local youth of Pathsala, "Whenever I travel from Pathsala to Jalah-Simla road on NH-127, I face problems due to the deplorable condition of the road. I appeal to the Assam Government to look into matter."
