KOKRAJHAR: The president of Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM), Janaklal Basumatary on Wednesday asserted that the infighting between two powerful political parties BPF and UPPL would benefit the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) led by Kokrajhar MP Naba Kr. Sarania has been playing divisive and communal politics in BTC region with a fake tribal certificate.

In a statement, the Basumatary said the internal fighting between the main tribal political parties UPPL and BPF in the 4th BTC election was going to destroy the tribal constitutional safeguard and rights in the 6th Schedule tribal area administration. He alleged that UPPL had taken up pro-Muslim immigrant agreements for political gain. He also said that tribal right protection in the 6th Schedule administration and tribal belts and blocks had been granted to the Boro tribal communities for protection from large-scale encroachment by migrants. Basumatary said that failure to protect tribal land, politics, and culture from aggression by the illegal immigrants had posed a serious threat to the tribal communities, not only in BTC but in entire Assam as well. He said that by offering the land, politics, and rights of cultural development to the immigrants, the UPPL leaders had threatened the constitutional protection and distinct identity of tribals.

Basumatary also criticized BPF leaders, alleging that they wanted to woo certain sections of voters by offering land patta to unqualified communities in reserve forest land under Forest Dwellers’ Act, 2006 by granting ST certificate illegally to non-notified communities and depriving the genuine tribal forest dwellers.
