JORHAT: Attending as the chief guest in the inaugural session of the international conference on Infrastructure Development under TEQIP III, which is jointly being organized by the Department of Civil Engineering of Jorhat Engineering College and Malnad College of Engineering, Hassan, Karnataka at the premises of Jorhat Engineering College, Prof DN Buragohain, former Director of IIT Guwahati and current Emeritus Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering in IITG, said, “Infrastructure is meant to facilitate the growth of the region and above all to improve quality of life.”
He further said, “Infrastructure development is meant for the development of the society and development of region, but more follow-up action is needed after the development of infrastructure.”
Prof KS Jayantha, Principal, Malnad College of Engineering, Karnataka, who attended as the Patron of the ICID -2018, said that civil engineering came from an ancient civilization. “The application of civil engineering stared right from the ancient days and what engineering we see today is totally based on an infrastructure that is developed through the application of civil engineering.” During the inaugural day, Prof Taiichi Hayashi (Japan), Prof Hemanta Hazarika (Japan), Prof STG Raghukantha (IIT Madras) and Dr. Hemanta Doloi (Australia) spoke while Dr Reeta Sharma, JEC Principal, chaired the session.
