TANGLA: Mystery still shrouds the death of a 28-year-old Junior Engineer (JE), Hemanta Mahanta, an inhabitant of Jangalpara of Tangla in Udalguri district after the recovery of the decomposed body of the youth at river Noa in Rangamati area of Darrang district on May 19. As police is yet to make any breakthrough in the incident, the family members have sensed that their ward was a victim of cold-blooded murder. On the fateful morning, he went to meet an infamous lady astrologer of the area to whom reportedly he was a regular visitor.

The family members also suspect that something went wrong with him and their son was a victim of black magic. Reportedly, the academically bright youth had joined as a Junior Engineer under Udalguri DRDA three months back.

Meanwhile, the Udalguri (west) chapter of All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union has submitted a memorandum to Darrang DC and Darrang SP and sought impartial inquiry into the incident. The memo signed by president Hemanta Bora Koch and secretary Jiten Deka demanded that the perpetrators of the heinous crime be brought to book.
