MANGALDAI: What are the reasons that the latest technology and infrastructure are yet to reach the rural agricultural farmers? Why are rural farmers in Assam not switching on to multiple cropping? How to apply Ecological Engineering in cultivation in the rural areas and how to acquaint the rural farmers with Ecological Engineering? How do rural farmers apply vermicompost in agricultural land only to avoid applying chemical fertilizers and pesticides and insecticides and to take on organic farming? Generally, the rural farmers of Assam, who are the backbone of the economy of the State, seldom get the opportunity to find these answers from agri scientists.

Keeping this in mind and to create awareness among the rural agricultural farmers about adopting organic multi-cropping, pest control in the organic way and adopting ecological engineering in the agricultural farming to yield better results, 'Seuji Asom'-a newly formed non-government voluntary organization - on Sunday organized an 'on-the-field' close interaction between the rural farmers and the agri-scientists at Outala in Darrang district. NCC Officer of Mangaldai College, Major Harimon Deka and young entrepreneur and artist Hirak Shaan Deka also extended cooperation in organizing the interaction at Gyanam Academy at Outala.

Taking part in the interaction organized perhaps for the first time in the district, scientist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Darrang, Dr. Manoj Kumar Chouhan gave a patient hearing to the problems and the grievances of the farmers and discussed about finding some effective solution. "It is high time and is the need of the hour that the rural agricultural farmers must switch on to multi cropping farming instead of the traditional single cropping system. We the scientists of KVKs are working for the interest of the farmers only and if the farmers find it difficult to meet us in our office, we are always ready to meet the farmers in the field," said Dr. Chouhan, while responding to the farmers in a very positive way.

Village headmen Sarat Chandra Saharia of Bengabora village, Upen Chandra Saikia of Besimari village, Hara Kanta Deka of Kamarpara village and Hangsha Dhar Deka of Durgagaon village; Principal of Gyanam Academy, Dhani Ram Deka; and other dignitaries also took part in the interaction, besides a total of 80 farmers of the greater area. Earlier, president of Seuji Asom, Hiren Saharia explained the objective of the interaction and appealed to all the farmers and rural youths to get involved in cultivation and to adopt the latest technology.
