DIBRUGARH: "In spite of all the challenges posed by it, we can see the Covid pandemic as an opportunity." This view was stated by Prof Hiranya Kumar Nath, Department of Economics and International Business at Sam Houston State University, Texas, USA, while delivering his keynote address at an international online conference on 'Covid-19 Pandemic: Opportunities and Challenges with Special reference to North East India', held here in Dibrugarh recently.
Prof Nath, in his speech, highlighted the different consequences of Covid-19 from the viewpoint of larger socio-economic aspects, including production, distribution, health and hygiene, change in attitude of the students, technological innovation, etc. During the deliberation, he also cautioned the audience regarding the increased use of mobile phones by the new generation in the post-Covid period, which might affect the society very badly.
The conference organized by DHSK Commerce College, in association with Assam Kaziranga University, was inaugurated by Prof. Manvinder Singh Pahwa, Dean, School of Management, Assam Kaziranga University.
Dr KM Bhagawati, Principal of the host college, delivered the welcome address. Altogether, 17 research papers were presented by either single or joint authors, by a total of 30 researchers from India and abroad in the conference.
The three sessions of the conference were chaired by Prof. Manvinder Singh Pahwa, Dean, Assam Kaziranga University; Dr Bhupesh Bhagawati, Coordinator, PG Department of Commerce of DHSK Commerce College, and Dr Upasana Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, Dibrugarh University respectively. Dr Khanindra Misra Bhagawati, Principal of the host college, chaired the valedictory session.
