International Day for Biological Diversity observed at the District Library Auditorium, Haflong

Haflong: With the theme ‘Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health’, the International Day for Biological Diversity was observed at the District Library Auditorium, Haflong with great enthusiasm on Wednesday. Nojit Kemprai, MAC, NC Hills Autonomous Council, attended the event as the chief guest while AK Johari, PCCF and Member Secretary, Assam State Bio-Diversity Board, Deputy Commissioner Amitabh Rajkhowa, Superintendent of Police Srejeeth T, CCF M Tungnung, Secretary Planning T T Daolagupu, DFO Ramen Das, DFO N K Jeme, and Secretary Saindesh Ardao attended the event.

The day’s programme started with the lighting of the lamp followed by felicitation of the guests and welcome song by Sound Wave School. Dr Sarbojit Thaosen, Associate Professor of Zoology, Haflong Government College, BC Langthasa, retired DCF, Haflong, and Dinesh Tiwari, Professor, Haflong Government College, attended the event as the resource persons and guest speaker.

All the speakers explained the meaning of biological diversity while stressing the importance of sustainable exploitation of natural resources. They appealed to the masses to rethink, reuse, and recycle and not to waste natural resources.

Chief guest Nojit Kemprai, MAC, N C Hills Autonomous Council, in his speech, said the present executive committee of NCHAC was very keen for the conservation of nature and proposed setting up a medicinal garden in Dima Hasao to the high-level forest officers present who also assured to take up the proposal. This was followed by modern song with a theme of nature conservation in Dimasa by Sound Wave Music School, release of brochure and distribution of prizes to the participants of the drawing and essay competition held earlier.
