LAKHIMPUR: The International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is observed across the globe on December 3 every year, was celebrated in Lakhimpur district with three-day programmes under the auspices of Pankaj Hazarika and Dipak Saikia, the resource persons of Inclusive Education, Lakhimpur district. The programmes were organized in different places under Lakhimpur Education Block under the guidance of Block Elementary Education Officer (BEEO) Ejajul Hussain. On the first day, a workshop was organized at Subansiri Sewashram ME School among teachers on the ‘Rights of Person with Disabilities Act, 2016’ and ‘Classroom Management’. Pankaj Hazarika and Dipak Saikia took part in the event as resource persons. On the second day, a Medical and Health Check-up Camp was held for the Divyang children at the Day Care Centre of Lakhimpur Education Block. Led by Dr. Jayanta Saikia, a team of medical employees conducted health check-up for 40 Divyang children with due treatment and counselling. Moreover, free of cost medicines were supplied to the children concerned in the health camp.
On the concluding day, the day long programmes for the celebration of the International Day of Person with Disabilities were organized at North Lakhimpur Town MV School. The agenda of the programmes started with the hoisting of flags by Jitumoni Dutta, the headmaster of the school. It was followed by a drawing competition among 52 divyang children and Teaching-Learning-Materials competition among the teachers, which was inaugurated by Cluster Resource Coordinator Sunil Gogoi. Science teacher Bhrigu Prasad Sarmah and Lakhimpur DIET lecture Chinmoyee Das shouldered the responsibility of judges in the series of competitions.
