International Domestic Workers' Day observed by Assam Labour Union and Hind Mazdoor Sabha in Bongaigaon

Bongaigaon: "Money does not work always. In Indian judiciary system all citizens are equal. To execute this equality theory properly in the judiciary system, the National Legal Service Authority provides free legal service to the economically weak people," said Chaturjya Prasad Talukdar, secretary, Bongaigaon District Legal Service Authority on Sunday in an open meeting held in Bongaigaon Railway Institute on the occasion of International Domestic Workers' Day.

The International Domestic Workers' Day was celebrated in Bongaigaon by Assam Labour Union and Hind Mazdoor Sabha, Assam State committee, jointly in association with Bongaigaon District Legal Service Authority. Thousands of domestic workers gathered here and several noted persons, including Chaturjya Prasad Talukdar, secretary of Bongaigaon District Legal Service Authority, Sujata Dutta, Chief Judicial Magistrate of Bongaigaon, Naser Zaman, Labour Inspector, Bongaigaon , Sister Nisa from Ferrendo Domestic Workers Alliance, Ashish Biswas, Assam State secretary of Hind Mazdoor Sabha, and Gobinda Biswas, Bongaigaon District Secretary of Hind Mazdoor Sabha.

On this occasion, 30 domestic workers had been given registration card from the labour department. Talking to the press, Ashish Biswas said that phase by phase all domestic workers would be provided this card. "This is a card by which they will be liable to get pension benefit in future. We are fighting for this since long and hopefully we will get it soon. Otherwise we will have no other option but to adopt the path of nationwide agitation," he said.
