TINSUKIA: International Gibbon Day will be observed with elaborative events on October 23 and October 24 at Barekuri in Tinsukia district, home to the magnificent acrobatic primate-Hoolock Gibbon exceptionally thriving within the residential areas in fragmented patches. October 24 marks the global celebration for being the most endangered group of apes endemic to tropical and subtropical rainforest of South and South-East Asia.
Organized at Digholsaku-Na Motapung's Puroni Bihukhola Auditorium Barekuri jointly by Barekuri Parivesh Unnayan Samity, Moran Jatiya Mahila Parishad and Green Vision NE under the patronage of OIL and Tinsukia College, the two-day event will witness cleanliness drive, plantation of saplings, competition, one-act play and workshop. Experts and wildlife activists from across the State are expected to attend the programme.
