MARGHERITA: An international webinar on 'Eastern Philosophy and West' was held recently by IQAC, Margherita College.
The objective of the webinar was to unfold the extent of influence of Indian philosophy in the West. IQAC, in-charge of Margherita College, Jugen Borah welcome all the resource persons and participants whereas Dr. Debajit Singha, Principal of Margherita College, narrated the objectives of the webinar. Dr Ram Sharma, Associate Professor, JVPG College, was the keynote speaker of the webinar. He narrated chronologically how Indian philosophy had travelled and influenced in America, especially the contribution of Swami Vivekananda and ISKON.
Professor Karolyn Heising, Professor, IOWA State University, USA, as one of the resource persons of the webinar, beautifully shared her own experience of Indian philosophy being a follower of Vedic culture and practices. She urged Indians to be more active in protecting this unique culture and tradition.
Dr Subhajit Choudhuy of IIT Guwahati, another resource person of the webinar, started his speech with the etymological difference between Indian philosophy and Philosophy. He also shared his own experiences of influencing Indian philosophy amongst a group of people in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2012 and Floionopolis, Brazil in 2018, one was on various practices and beliefs related to Shiva Linga and its implication in day-to-day life and the other on vermillion on forehead as used in Indian culture.
Around 2,300 people participated in the webinar through Facebook live and 62 participated through CISCO Webex platform.
