DIBRUGARH: An international webinar on 'The Place of Linguistics in Tribal Studies: What we can do together' was organized by DHS College, its Tribal Studies, Research and Development Centre, in joint collaboration with both departments of Anthropology and Political Science.
Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia, Principal of DHS College inaugurated the webinar and welcome speech was given by Sultana Hazarika, Coordinator, International Academic Coordination Committee. More than hundred participants comprising academicians, teachers, researchers and students attended the programme.
Dr Mark W. Post, resource person, an international academic advisor of DHSK College and a professor in Linguistics from Sydney University, Australia, delivered lecture on 'The Place of Linguistics in Tribal Studies: What we can do together'. He mentioned the scope of studying the language and culture of Northeast India. He also advised the student community to come forward to study in this field. He expressed his pleasure for establishment of a Tribal Studies, Research and Development Centre with an aim to explore and study the language and culture of various indigenous tribes of the north-eastern region. He gave answers to the questions raised by the participants.
The webinar concluded with vote of thanks from Dr Nirmali Pegu, Head of the Department of Political Science and joint coordinator of the Tribal Studies, Research & Development Centre of the college.
