MANGALDAI: The Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), Darrang under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of the Government of India celebrated International Women's Day with a day-long programme. In the programme presided over by women activist Rashmi Rekha Sarma, General Manager, DICC, Darrang, Hemanta Talukdar inaugurated the exhibition of handicraft products displayed by the successful beneficiaries of JSS, Darrang. Jinti Rani Deka, Mamoni Talukdar and Drabita Choudhary -official staff of All India Radio, Guwahati took part in the meeting and delivered their valuable speech.

Journalist Abdul Khalek and women activist Renu Devi Nath were also present in the meeting. The General Manager, DICC in his speech highly appreciated the JSS Darrang for their activities like the skill development for the poor and offering scope for self-employment. Director of JSS Darrang, Sheikh Mohammad Amin, in his speech gave details of the scheme and its achievements.

DOOMDOOMA: The International Women's Day was observed at Padma Nath Gohain Baruah (PNGB) Government Model College, Kakapather on Tuesday. In the beginning, Principal Dr Thanuram Majinder welcomed the guest while Akangshita Sarma, member of the Women Cell and Assistant Professor, English Department, explained the significance of this year's theme of IWD, 'Gender Equality for a Sustainable Tomorrow'.

Dr Aruna Gogoi Baruah, eminent poet and former Vice-Principal, Doomdooma College and Sarifa Khatun Chaudhury, also a leading poet and former Principal, Dangri Higher Secondary school, attended the meeting as chief guests.

Dr Aruna Gogoi Baruah in her speech dwelt on the relevance of the present day of women's day with that of its evolutionary process since the days of vedic ages. On the other hand, Sarifa Khatun Chaudhury spoke about the inspiring instances of the three eminent women writers of India namely, Kamala Ratnam, Ajit Kaur and Ismat Chugait- whose lives were full of struggles.

The programme which was anchored by Dr Rimi Bora, Co-ordinator, Women Cell and Assistant Professor, Education department, was also addressed by Sanjib Kalita, Head, English Department and Panchanan Hazarika, Assistant Professor Assamese Department. A one act play was staged on behalf of the students. The prize winners of the essay competition organised by the Women Cell on the topic of IWD were given away the prizes in the meeting besides inauguration of a sanitary pad box for use of the girl students of the college at the initiative of the Women Cell. The programme came to an end with offering of the vote of thanks by Jusmi Gogoi, Assistant Professor, English Department.

JAMUGURIHAT: The International Women's day was observed at Biswanath College with a series of programmes. The meeting was presided over by Bandana Gogoi, president of the Women's Cell. The Principal of Biswanath College, Dr Chinta Mani Sarmah inaugurated the meeting and an essay writing competition was organised to mark the day. Dr.Karabi Gogoi of Biswanath College delivered the keynote address in the meeting. Leena Hazarika, Associate Professor was felicitated for winning 'North East Diamond Award' and Antareepa Borah, Asstt Professor was felicitated for being elected as Vice-President of Assam Hockey Association. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr.Jutika Sonowal, the secretary of the Women Cell of Biswanth College Teacher's Unit. The event was attended by college teachers besides students.

Dibrugarh: Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) observed International Women's Day on Tuesday on the theme 'Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow'. As part of the Women's Day celebration, BCPL observed a week-long programme. To mark the occasion Mousumi Borpurzary, a trainer from Art of Living addressed the spouses of BCPL employees at BCPL township Barbaruah and Sivasagar and spoke on topics about obsessive compulsive disorder, high and low mood swings and depression and anxiety.

A session was also given to the peripheral and support female staff and other contract workers on how to deal with stress by Brinda Baruah Sharma, a clinical and child psychologist Assam Medical College and Hospital Dibrugarh. Further, Divya Capoor CGM (HR), ONGC addressed the women employees virtually and spoke at length about equal participation and leadership of women professionals in corporate world. Hasina Kharbhih, Founder and Managing Director of Impulse Social Enterprises, Social Entrepreneur was the invited speaker.

She addressed the women and shared her valuable experience on woman empowerment and breaking the bias relating to her own life story and also addressed on rescuing victims of human trafficking and paved the way for them to lead self independent and dignified life. The event was also graced by Reep Hazarika, Managing Director, BCPL and senior officials of BCPL . Hazarika while addressing the gathering spoke on the enormous contributions of women . Asit Das, General Manager (HR) also emphasized about the role and responsibilities of women. He also spoke on the fact that women are already empowered and they just have to realize the potential and worth and be resolute to achieve to what they aspire.
