SIVASAGAR: The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, in line with the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, organized International Day of Yoga at the historic Rang Ghar in Sivasagar, one of the 75 heritage sites in India that organized the International Day of Yoga on Tuesday.
Rameswar Teli, Minister of State for Petroleum, Government of India, was the chief guest and Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tassa was the guest of honour on the occasion. The Union Minister, during his speech, made several important remarks on the relevance of Yoga at present and urged everyone to attract the people to do yoga.
The National Service Scheme Unit of Gargaon College, the 49 Assam Naval NCC & 11 Assam Girls NCC, Eco Club, Yoga Centre, and Women Cell of Gargaon College also celebrated the 8th International Day of Yoga at the college premises with great enthusiasm. The function began with a brief introduction of International Day of Yoga by Dr Rimjim Borah, NSS programme officer of Gargaon College. After felicitation, the programme was inaugurated by Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, the Principal of the College. Dr Mahanta, in his inaugural speech, briefly explained the significance of International Day of Yoga. He mentioned that the glorious yoga practice of India, which has become popular all over the world, should be a part of our daily life because Yoga is a source of physical, mental, and spiritual strength of our life.
KOKRAJHAR: The Chirang district administration on Tuesday joined the rest of the world in celebrating the 8th International Day of Yoga 2022 by organizing a mass yoga demonstration at Kajalgaon Weekly Market Community Centre. The programme was organized by the Chirang district administration in collaboration with BTR Yoga Samiti and Kajalgaon UN Brahma College. It was ceremonially inaugurated by MLA Jayanta Basumatary as chief guest of the programme by lighting a lamp in the presence of Chirang Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah, SP Pranjit Borah, and other dignitaries.
Inaugurating the yoga programme, MLA Jayanta Basumatary said that the sages of ancient India used to practice yoga through which many of them were able to maintain good health. He expressed his delight at the acceptance of yoga by the world community and encouraged all to make yoga a part of everyday life so as to reap maximum benefit from this. On the occasion, the yoga and asanas were performed by the participants under the guidance of yoga instructors of District Sports Department, Kanika Deka and Bhaben Deka.
Tezpur: In order to promote the theme of 8th International Day of Yoga- 'Yoga for Humanity', the Yoga Centre of Tezpur University organized several activities in tune of the theme. A two-month long Yoga Mahotsava with several activities were organized with active participation from the TU fraternity and local community. Special initiatives were taken to organize resourceful activities like online Pranayama and meditation camp, workshop on Aura Meditation and advance healing with Dr Uday Shah, yoga competition for students and two week-long yoga camp for physical and mental well-being of children. The University also organized street plays and outreach activities for creating awareness and consciousness amongst the masses on the importance of Yoga for a healthy life.
Additionally, a Yogathon was also successfully organized by the University on the occasion of the 8th International Yoga Day. Prof. Vinod Kumar Jain, Vice-Chancellor, Tezpur University, inaugurated the event in the presence of Lieutenant Sachin from 16 JAT Regiment, Indian Army. The event started off with a speech of the Prime Minister which was attended by students, faculty members, members from 16 JAT Regiment and participants from the local community. This was followed by spectacular yoga asanas being performed in the form of Common Yoga Protocol by the participants. Young school children from the local community and TU fraternity also exhibited outstanding yoga performance which was lauded by all. The event was also marked by the presence of International students currently pursuing different programmes at Tezpur University. Prof VK Jain, Vice Chancellor, Tezpur University, urged all to practice yoga for the benefit of physical and spiritual well-being.
LAKHIMPUR: 72 Assam Girls (I) Coy NCC, North Lakhimpur led by Officer Commanding Colonel Roby Tom celebrated the International Yoga Day on Tuesday along with the rest of the globe with the enthusiastic participation of NCC Cadets, NCC Alumni Association and Permanent Instructor staff, Senior Girl Cadet Instructors and CTOs and ANOs. The 72 Assam Girls (I) Coy NCC has colleges and schools covering Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts. These units separately organized yoga session simultaneously under the guidance of the respective Yoga Instructors in Dhemaji, North Lakhimpur and Laluk. The Yoga practice and demonstration started with the International Yoga Day pledge and the practice of yoga was conducted for more than one hour. The respective college Principals attended the events as chief guest. A total of 178 NCC cadets and 37 NCC Alumni and 150 college students participated under this NCC unit.
On the other hand, the 10th Indo-Tibetan Border Police observed the International Yoga Day at Recruit Training Centre (RTC), Kimin. More than 400 Himveers participated in the yoga and meditation practices organized on the occasion. Torrential rain failed to dampen the spirit of the Himveers while celebrating the event with two-hour long agenda.
