TEZPUR: Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH), Tezpur celebrated the 9th International Yoga Day on the theme ‘Yoga – Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ with the inauguration of the Tele-Yoga service.

The Tele-Yoga service of LGBRIMH, Tezpur started from June 22 under the supervision of the Centre for Rehabilitation Sciences, LGBRIMH, Tezpur. The inauguration ceremony of the Tele-Yoga services and International Yoga Day started with a welcome address by Dr Hemanta Dutta, Deputy Director, LGBRIMH, Tezpur, who spoke about the importance of Yoga and how Tele Yoga services would help individuals other than indoor patients of the institute for their mental and physical well-being. This was followed by the lighting of lamp by all the dignitaries. The dignitaries were then felicitated with phulam gamusa. Dr Jyoti Hazarika, Medical Superintendent of LGBRIMH, talked about how Yoga as a practice should be used as a preventive medicine for sound mental and physical health.

Attending the programme, Prithiraj Rava, MLA of Tezpur, who was present as the chief guest for the inauguration of the Tele Yoga Service, talked about the origin of Yoga and how it still plays a vital role in an individual’s life.

Dr SK Deuri, Director, LGBRIMH, Tezpur, in his speech spoke about the importance of Yoga in various aspects of mental health and day-to-day life. He also informed about the Tele Yoga service launched by the institute for the greater benefit of society. He also discussed LGBRIMH’s proposed centre for yoga studies and related healing practices which would have a platform for Yoga to be studied in a scientific and methodological manner.
