HAFLONG: The people of Haflong in particular and of Dima Hasao in general have expressed serious concern over the ‘indifferent’ attitude of the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) authority towards Dima Hasao, forcing them to feel that the ASTC authority is contemplating to shut down ASTC services in Dima Hasao.

The present Assistant Station Superintendent of Haflong, who is the only staff, has been transferred without appointing anyone else in his place. Earlier, there were as many as eight ASTC staff at Haflong but now the number hs come down to one. With the transfer of the present Assistant Station Superintendent, there would be no one to look after the station as well as the services.

In the past, Haflong ASTC had as many as 10 services throughout the district and outside the district. On many occasions, the people of Dima Hasao had raised some genuine issues regarding the ASTC services and also the infrastructure of the station but the authority concerned alleegdly paid no attention to these issues. Even the security wall for the station could not be erected till date even after repeated pleas, people alleged.

Talking to the media, Pabitra Hapila, the only staff of Haflong ASTC bus station, said he will leave Haflong within two weeks as he has been transferred to another place. He said that the station requires staff and proper infrastructure and also a security wall should be built around the station.
