Is Trinamool Congress gaining ground in Dima Hasao?

HAFLONG: Despite being a new political party in Dima Hasao, the TMC leaders' year-long mobilisation has helped the party progressively build support.

On Thursday, more than 70 people from Congress and BJP joined the TMC in presence of TMC District president Aching Jeme, general secretary Satminthang Khungsai and other party leaders at a mass joining ceremony at New Sangbar of Kharthong Constituency, 85 km from Haflong.

Speaking on the occasion, TMC president and general secretary explained the aims and objectives of the TMC party in regards to the grievances of the people under the BJP ruling. There is no opposition in the Council, no one to speak out against the rulers, and occasionally the voices of the people are muffled. A strong opposition is required for good governance and TMC can play a vital role as opposition. It was not the first instance that people are joining, earlier also many people joined the TMC with hope of change and proper peace and development.

Talking to this correspondent, GS Khungsai said TMC may be a new political party in Dima Hasao but it is an old political party formed in 1990. People unhappy with the Congress and BJP are coming in good numbers to join TMC with hope of fulfilling their aspirations. Here in Kharthong constituency outside interference was there since long as no local candidate from Kharthong was elected. Now the people of Kharthong want that their own leader who could lead them.
