Guwahati: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has selected a woman from Assam as the Grade-1 scientist.

The girl, Nazneen Yasim, hails from Nagaon district in Assam and presently she is a teacher at Kadamoni Town High School in Nagaon's Juria.

She is the daughter of Manjila Begum and Abul Kalam Azad and completed her B.Tech in Electronics from NITS Mirza college under Gauhati University and pursued her M.Tech from Tezpur University in 2016.

Reportedly, in 2019, she appeared a written test for selection to the prestigious organisation and was call for an interview at the North East Space Application Centre at Shillong on August 11, 2021.

She is inspired by Kalpana Chawla, who was the first woman of India origin to go to space.

Meanwhile, after this achievement, her parents, including villagers are happy and delighted.

Notably, in June this year, the Union DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh had said that ISRO will assist development projects in the Northeast India through space technology, offering optimum utilisation of satellite imaging and other technology applications for better accomplishment of infrastructural projects in the region,

This was the first of its kind initiative in the whole country where there would be an institutionalized involvement of ISRO in mapping and sharing of data for developmental projects.
