BONGAIGAON: The Income-tax Department is conducting nationwide webinars on the 'Faceless Assessment Scheme'. In continuation of the same, a webinar was conducted by the office of the Joint commissioner of Income Tax, Range-Bongaigaon under the aegis of Kavita Jha, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income-tax, NER, and Raju Tayeng, Principal Commissioner of Income-tax, Guwahati, recently with various stakeholders to explain the salient features of the 'Faceless Assessment Scheme', announced by the Prime Minister to ease compliance burden and to increase fairness and objectivity in the assessment process and to ensure fair, courteous and judicious treatment to the tax payers.

The purpose of this webinar was to increase awareness about the Faceless Scheme amongst the stakeholders and to obtain feedback, including queries and suggestions, from them for communication to the Central Board of Direct Taxes.

The webinar, hosted by Rani Lama, JCIT, Bongaigaon, started with the welcome address and informed the participants about the purpose of conducting the webinar and about the new Faceless Assessment Scheme, 2020. A power-point presentation was made by Chapal Ganguli, ITO, explaining the various features of the scheme which would lead to anonymous and electronic assessment without human interface. In this scheme there will be a single point for all communication with the taxpayers and the different functions of the assessment will be handled by a team of officers sitting at different locations. The legal framework and structure of the new system of assessment and Role of National e-assessment Centre and Regional E-assessment centres as well as Residual Hierarchy was discussed at length.

Rani Lama, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Range-Bongaigaon initiated the question answer session, which was interactive and the answers to the queries of the participants were given by Rani Lama and Chapal Ganguli, ITO, Goalpara. The stakeholders also provided valuable suggestions. Altogether 53 persons participated in the webinar. Rani Lama, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Bongaigaon, assured the stakeholders that the newly-implemented scheme and measures would go a long way in creating a transparent and tax payer-friendly environment.
