Assam singing sensation Zubeen Garg on Sunday appealed actor and Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) member Jatin Bora to resign from the Bharatiya Janata Party as a mark of protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill. Replying to Zubeen's comment, Bora said "My language(Assamese) and my culture(Assamese) is everything for me. Whatever I am today is all because of the people of Assam. I respect each and every stand of the Assamese people taken in a bid to safeguard the community, its land, language, and culture."

Bora, who is currently the chairman of state government-run Assam State Film Finance Development Corporation posted this taking to Facebook to express his take on the controversial Bill obliquely.

On being asked about the alleged silence of Bora when the artist's society is dissenting their voices against the Bill, Zubeen said, “Jatin took a job by joining BJP. I don't know about him (Jatin) but had I been in his position, I would have resigned right away for the love of my community even if I had been a minister.”

Zubeen took to the streets with the students of Cotton University in the protest against the bill at Cotton University on Sunday. He said, "I am independent, I am not anybody's servant. Hence, I will continue to protest against the controversial bill no matter what." Zubeen also took to Facebook on Sunday and posted a photograph of him with a caption written, " Nooooo CAB .we wl destroy it."

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha agreed to introduce the Citizenship Bill with 293 votes in favour and 82 against. The much-debated Bill seeks to provide Indian citizenship to Non-Muslims fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the Bill in Lok Sabha on Monday amid massive outrage in different parts of the country, mainly the Northeast. While introducing the Bill in the Lower House, Amit Shah asserted that the Bill is not against Muslims or minorities.
