BOKO: Japanese Encephalitis (JE) outbreak in the Boko area has led to the death of two persons while there are two suspected death cases.

Boko Sub-Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) Mantu Kumar Das declared that Hari Pathak (58) from the Bhalukghata area lost his life on July 28, while Juli Das (35) from Gamerimura Jakuapara village died in GMCH on August 4. “We have two other suspected cases – Jaharun Bibi from Jambari village under Chaygaon LAC and Arup Das from Sekhadari village who died in July,” added SDMO Das.

SDMO Mantu Kumar Das said, “I request the people of the Boko area to take safety measures because JE spreads through the bite of an infected mosquito, especially in the months of June, July and August. In the Boko area, most of the people belong to tribal communities and they have rear pigs. Mosquitos bite the pigs and if the same mosquitos bite people, they will be infected with JE virus. So I request everyone to keeps their pig farms at a distance from their houses. Also, using mosquito nets is very essential while sleeping, using incense sticks in the the evening hours are primary precautions to protect oneself from this disease.”
