Guwahati:

Jayanta Bora's mother died without receiving justice for her son's death, who died under unknown circumstances in security forces custody on June 15, last year.

According to sources, Jayanta's mother, Leela Bora, became ill unexpectedly yesterday. She was transported to a private hospital in Golaghat, where she passed away.

The mother of Jayanta Bora had filed a police complaint against both the police and the army, and the case was recorded under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (Punishment for Murder), 120 B (Punishment for Criminal Conspiracy), and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

The Raijor Dal alleged that Jayanta Bora died as a result of custodial torture at the hands of security personnel. The party also claimed that the state government failed to keep commitments made to his family.

"The state government did not fulfill their promises. Two ministers, Atul Bora and Jogen Mohan, and BJP MP Topon Kumar Gogoi gave a written promise to the family last year after the security forces' brutality came to light. But the government is yet to fulfill the promise of giving justice to Jayanta's family. They only extended some monetary compensation to the aggrieved family. No member of the family is given government employment till now as per the promise," the party said in a release.

Locals and the Committe for Demanding Justice for Jayanta Bora held a commemorative meeting at his house on Tuesday, urging the government to provide justice to the family. His mother became ill after attending the conference, and her health rapidly deteriorated. She was brought to the hospital, but it was too late to save her life.

Several organizations like All Assam Students' Union (AASU), Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, and Manab Adhikari Sangram Samiti had have smelled foul play and condemned the incident, and demanded maximum punishment to the guilty.
