LAKHIMPUR: The South Point School-Guwahati and Lakhimpur Commerce College on Friday jointly launched an action plan for combating climate change. This was launched during a joint programme by the two academic institutes at a programme held at Lakhimpur Commerce College, North Lakhimpur. The Eco Club of Lakhimpur Commerce College along with South Point School-Guwahati's NCC unit and Soulmate, an SHG by NCC alumni of different districts conducted a joint campaign for climate change combat in association with Aina Foundation, an NGO working for the livelihood concerns in among the marginalized sections of the society. The joint campaign was inaugurated by Dr Lohit Hazarika, Principal of Lakhimpur Commerce College where the objective of the meet was explained by Dr. Harinee Patowary Das.

Lt. Maitree Hazarika, ANO-NCC, South Point School, Guwahati and founder of Soulmate delivered the key-note address of the meeting. The members of the Eco Club of Lakhimpur Commerce College and NCC cadets from South Point School-Guwahati delivered presentations of climate change and the ways to combat it. The founder of Aina Foundation and alumnae of Lakhimpur Commerce College and an ace flue player Krishna Pratim Bordoloi delivered a presentation on e-waste management in that programme. The meeting was also addressed by Saurabh Jyoti Dutta of Chai Community. The two institutes also exchanged saplings and eco-friendly products produced by Soulmate NGO on that occasion. The meeting ended with vote of thanks by Dr Rupjyoti Bhattacharjee of Eco Club, Lakhimpur Commerce College.
