JORHAT: The Jorhat district administration introduced a new scheme titled 'Swa-Niujan' on Monday for the migrant workers who returned to Jorhat district from other parts in the country leaving their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat, Roshni Aparanji Korati on Tuesday said, "People who have lost their jobs and returned to their native place in Jorhat will be benefitted by this scheme. All the government departments have prepared plans to give employment to these jobless migrant workers. This is a sincere effort by the district administration to the migrant workers to help them to earn their livelihood during this pandemic. We have already provided application forms for all people quarantined in different centres in the district to apply for the scheme."
She added, "We have also provided five WhatsApp numbers for five different working fields like agriculture, fishery, poultry farming and other professional skills to apply for the scheme."
Besides composite farmers, the scheme provides employment for the skilled migrant workers like motor mechanic, painter, carpenter, mason, electrician, plumber and tailor. Moreover, people interested in getting employment in private home guard and hospitality sector can also apply for getting benefit under this scheme. A district administration official said, "We have also made arrangements to provide training if necessity arises."
