Kokrajhar: Along with the rest of the country, the National Press Day was observed centrally by the Information and Public Relations department of BTC in association with the BTC Journalists’Association and Chirang District Press Club at Bodoland Guest House, Kajalgaon in Chirang district on Saturday. The journalists of four districts of BTC took part actively.
Speaking at the open session as chief guest, the deputy chief of BTC, Kampa Borgoyary said that journalists with impartial outlook and a good attitude would bring positive change in the society. He said the journalists should have moral responsibility and accountability for the society. The journalists with negative attitudes could lead the society in the wrong direction, he said, adding that the reports of journalists should always be correct and impactful.
Borgoyary said there were many instances of misleading reports which had created intolerance, misunderstanding and chaotic situation among the people in the region. The Boro and O-Boro divisive politics were also one of the negative parts of journalists with partial attitude, he said. He also said that journalists should play a vital role in issues of regional and national importance.
The meeting was also addressed by Prof. Samarjit Kachari, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Pondicherry Central University, Dr. Nilpadmini Rabha, Principal of UN Brahma College, Kajalgaon, and other dignitaries. It was attended by officers of the I&PR department of four districts.
Earlier, the opening remark was given by the CHD, I&PR department, BTC, Ansuma Mahilary while DIPRO, Chirang, Gagan Narzary, who is also the president of the reception committee, gave the welcome address. The four senior journalists of BTC districts were felicitated by the chief guest on the occasion. He also released the souvenir Aie brought out on the occasion.
In the morning, the flag of BTC Journalists’ Association was hoisted by its president Jaiklong Brahma while presidents of four district committees also hoisted their respective flags simultaneously followed by homage to journalists who had lost their lives for different reasons by Kameswar Das, advisor of the association.
Saplings were planted by Gagan Narzary, DIPRO, Chirang while the free medical camp was inaugurated by Dr. Digendra Ramchiary, Joint Director of Health Services, Chirang.
