JORHAT: Kakojan College, Jorhat has been awarded the One District One Green Champion award for the academic year 2020-21 by Mahatma Gandhi National Council for Rural Education (MGNCRE), Ministry of Education, Government of India, stated a press release.
Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat, Ashok Kumar Barman, presented the certificate to the Principal of the college, Dr Ruprekha Bordoloi at an online ceremony held on Friday during a district-level cluster workshop on Swachata action plan through Google Meet, where V Ravinder Reddy, Project Co-ordinator of MGNCE, Ministry of Education, Government of India, Tuti Sandhya from MGNCRE, Principals and faculty members of various colleges were present, stated a press release.
The award is based on various parameters, including hygiene, cleanliness, usage of green and renewable energy, waste management, green campus drive, besides observing COVID-19 precautions and maintaining social distancing norms. Kakojan College has been recognized as district green champion of Jorhat district for successfully adoping and implementing the best practices in the areas of sanitation, waste management, water management, energy management and greenery management.
While congratulating the college for the achievement, V Ravinder Reddy appreciated the contribution of the college towards Swachhta education and practices.
Dr Ruprekha Bordoloi, Principal of the college, said, "A green campus and sustainability oriented curriculum is a priority area of the college where environmental issues are integrated through both extra-curricular activities and academics. The award is a testimony to our commitment towards rendering social responsibility with utmost sincerity."
