KALAIGAON: MLA of Kalaigaon LAC, Maheshwar Boro inaugurated a scheme for protection of River Noa in Khairabari under Kalaigaon revenue circle on Wednesday in the presence of Utpal Hazarika, SDO of Water Resource, and EM Jagadish Sarkar.

MLA Baro said, “The River Noa under Kalaigaon Revenue Circle in Udalguri district has overflowed due to incessant rain and several villages were flooded during this year in Kalaigaon area. Noa River has overflowed due to heavy rainfall since the past few days resulting in flash floods. The flood-affected villages are Rupatal, Bhehguri, Balipara, Hapabari, Gerua, No.2 Amguri, Habibhanga, No.2 Kalaigaon, and Sagunbahi. Villagers of these areas said that they demanded immediate repair of the old embankment of Noa River which had been ravaged by floods. The embankment has given way under the mounting pressure of floodwater and it may be damaged anytime. Moreover, water has entered several houses and about 50 families have not been able to cook their meals. So, the scheme has been allotted by RIDF to protect the River Noa at Khairabari.”
