GOLAGHAT: Kamal Jalan has been elected as the chairman of North Eastern Tea Association (NETA) for the term 2021-23 in a meeting held on Monday at NETA headquarters at Golaghat. Ajay Dhandharia has been elected as the vice chairman.

Kamal Jalan is a partner of Shyam Tea Products, Shyam Udyog and Gorajan Tea Estate. His group produces about 36 lakh kgs of tea annually. Kamal Jalan is based at Jorhat and is associated with a number of socio-religious organisations. He is also known as padman of Assam for free distribution of sanitary pads. He has donated busts of Moghai Ojha and Hiren Bhattacharyya. He is also planning to install busts of Bishnu Prasad Rabha and Maniram Dewan in coming years.

Ajay Dhandharia resident of Golaghat, owner of Parmeshwari Tea Company at Karbi-Anglong, produces about 22 lakh kgs of tea annually. He is also engaged with several social organisations.

NETA, established in 1981, is a tea producers' association having composite tea estates, bought tea leaf factories and tea gardens under its membership fold. It has total 163 members spread over Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, representing tea made of around 102 million kgs of Tea. NETA is a constituent member of Consultative Committee of Plantations Associations (CCPA), the umbrella body of tea producers of our country, stated a press release.
