Karabi-Dubori Murder Case: Gauhati High Court (GHC) Dismisses Appeal Filed By CBI

Guwahati: The Gauhati high court dismissed the criminal appeal no. 145/2021 filed by CBI assailing the judgement of the trial court acquitting city-based trader Bhagya Kalita and another person of charges of murder under section 302 IPC.

Kalita along with another person was charged for the murder of Karabi Das, wife of Ujjal Kr Das and their minor daughter in the year 1995.

However, Kalita and his driver Fatikur Ali (22 years) were acquitted of all charges of murder by a lower court which declared them innocent in 2017.

Earlier, Bhagya Kalita and two of his acquaintances were accused by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for their alleged involvement in the murder of the mother-daughter duo.

In other news, a murder was reported last month in the Satgaon area of Guwahati. Ratul Bordoloi, who is a house owner, discover that his tenant had committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan. The police rushed to the spot and found the body of the tenant's six-year-old son with cut marks on his neck. The tenant's wife was also discovered in the same room lying unconscious with similar cut marks on her neck. She was immediately rushed to the hospital.
