Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Carried Eviction Drive At Assam-Nagaland Border

GUWAHATI: KAAC (Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council) carried out an eviction drive today on Monday 20 December in Bokajan situated in the Assam-Nagaland border.

The eviction drive has been carried out by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) along with police officials, the forest department, district administration and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The dispossession was mainly carried out in the Block No. 3 area of Lahorijan Dudu Colony, Bokajan.

Apart from the expulsion in the area, the district administration has imposed section 144 CrPC in the location of Lahorijan Block No. 3 that comes under Borjan Mouza of the Bokajan Sub-Division. The Section was imposed for the maintenance of public peace and discipline at the time of the eviction drive carried out by the officers of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.

It is informed by KAAC authorities that with the start of the eviction drive, the area will be cleared completely by removing the people residing illegally who occupied those lands unlawfully. Throughout the eviction drive, all the shops and other business-related establishments located within a 700-meters radius of Lahorijan Dudu Colony will be shut down making the place empty.

Other activities in the area such as public processions, rallies and public meetings for any purposes were not allowed to be held following the eviction drive.

Notably, a total of 181 families were residing illegally in the government land near the Assam-Nagaland border and with the eviction drive today 106 families among all will be removed from the area. However, getting informed about the drive many families has already cleared the government land before the drive was carried out.
