BOKAJAN: In another major bust, the Karbi Anglong police have seized 498 grams of smuggled gold at Khatkhati on NH 39 late Thursday evening. The consignment was recovered from a passenger of a night bus bearing registration number AS 01HC 8977 heading towards Guwahati from Kohima. Two persons, including a lady, have been arrested in that connection.

As per reports, the Khatkhati police was conducting a routine check inside the vehicle when they noticed the conduct of two passengers doubtful and on frisking the male passenger, the police team recovered two gold bars from his possession. Meanwhile, a WPC was called in to search the lady passenger sitting beside him and another gold bar was recovered from her possession.

The police have identified the arrested person as Ramesh Salam (42) and his sister Indu Bala Tongrang (30). Both are residents of Manipur. Preliminary investigation revealed that the seized Gold bars were carried from Manipur and was supposed to be delivered at Guwahati. The approximate value of the seized gold is reported to be over Rs 20 lakh in the market.
