SILCHAR: Aftabuddin Mollah had tendered his apology, the police should not have arrested him, stated AIUDF supremo Badrauddin Ajmal here on Wednesday. Mollah, the Congress MLA from Jaleswar was arrested on Tuesday night for making derogatory remarks against the Hindu religion. Condemning Mollah’s remarks, Ajmal, however, said, the Congress MLA had first time made a mistake, and he had apologised for that, hence the government should have refrained from arresting him.
Ajmal reached Silchar on Wednesday, reportedly to begin first round of homework for the ensuing Lok Sabha election. The AIUDF had already declared that the party would contest the Karimganj seat after the Congress refused to forge any alliance with them. Ajmal said, the selection process was yet to start, however, his brother former MP Sirajidin Ajmal and noted educationist Baharul Islam were the initial choices.
TMC, too, had expressed willingness to field former MP Susmita Dev in Karimganj. Reacting on this, Ajmal said, if Susmita really contests then the chances of AIUDF winning the seat would multiple many times.
Ajmal said under the leadership of Bhupen Bora, the Congress would not be able to win a single seat in Assam. However, Ajmal predicted that the INDIA had bright chance of forming the next government in the Centre. The formation of the coalition government would not materialize without the active cooperation of the AIUDF, maintaining this, Ajmal in a sarcastic manner, said, the Gandhis would be bound to give him a call for support and APCC leaders would be the mute spectators.
